What do you do when some greyed out idiot on the front page completely misses the point? Do you put them in their place, which will pull them out of the grey? Or do you just let them be grey and wrong? I usually just leave them in grey hell. How do you all deal with them?

If the person is being reasonable in their idiocy, I'll respond. If they are being hostile with their idiocy, I'll leave it alone. If they are being hostile with their idiocy and getting stars, I will dismiss it.
Best to not let other idiots communicate with each other. We have to kill them before they start forming political parti—aaaaah shit.

I leave in the grey if they're being rude/aggressive/clearly trolling.

If it's laughably ridiculous, and needs to be shared with the rest of the class, I'll call them out with a silly reply and recommend it.
If it makes no sense, or is an angry, uninteresting reply, I'll leave it.
If it's hateful, trollish, or attacking, I'll flag it no matter who they are replying to. I flagged a dude a few times the other day that went off the deep end.
Or, that post that got my attention could be a misunderstanding. I also take a look at their history sometimes. A lot of burner accounts have their view as the default "all content" setting, and you can easily tell if their odd comment was simply ignorance looking for an answer, or if they spew nothing but rude, troll comments.

I think that's good policy. There are many times when I'll get a reply that refuted what I wtote, and while I disagree, I'll pronote it anyway. As long as it's polite.

It's all about making the internet a better place. If people were held accountable for their actions we wouldn't have so much vitriol.
I think all those people who go on social media and threaten the lives of people should be tracked down and prosecuted. Do that a few times and I think people would cut that stuff out a lot.

I've been scarred by the experience of disagreeing with someone and having them hound me because I disagreed and apparently didn't have a valued opinion because I hadn't even gone to university yet. I'm flagging and dismissing that shit because dealing with it would've been a waste of time, energy and brain cells. Never again.

Agreed. It's all about the anonymity (sad the man hiding behind a pseudonym; I don't abuse that anonymity, though). A year or so ago, I made a comment on an airplane article because I like to think I know just a little bit about them. Numerous people chimed in to say that I had no idea what I was talking about, and I politely referred them to an explanatory post I had made to somebody else. After a few rounds of this, somebody actually complimented me on staying civil and not rising to the bait. There's enough ugliness in the world today, there's no need to be ugly on the Internet just because you can.

As somebody who has multiple degrees from a couple of fine universities, I can attest to the fact that going to a university has NOTHING to do with intelligence. Anybody who suggests otherwise, is immediately dismissed by me. They are clearly the same blowhard idiots I wanted to punch at university.
